Revit vs AutoCAD
Both are Autodesk tools, but they answer different questions. Choosing wrongly is what makes projects feel slow.

Side by side
- AutoCAD: draw geometry. Revit: model a building.
- AutoCAD file = one drawing. Revit file = the whole project with all its views.
- AutoCAD change = manual edit everywhere. Revit change = automatic across views.
- AutoCAD quantities = manual measurement. Revit quantities = live schedules.
Learning effort
- AutoCAD is faster to pick up for simple drafting.
- Revit takes longer at the start and pays back on any project with more than a few sheets.
Use both, deliberately
- Model and document in Revit.
- Export DWG for consultants, authorities and fabricators who need it.
- Keep the model as the source; never let an exported DWG become the master.
