Automation
What is Dynamo?
Visual programming inside Revit: you connect nodes instead of writing code, and the repetitive work stops being manual.
4 min read

The idea
- A graph of nodes that reads and writes Revit data.
- No text programming required to start.
- Runs inside Revit, on the open model.
Tasks worth automating first
- Renaming and renumbering views, sheets and rooms
- Placing tags and dimensions in bulk
- Pushing Excel data into parameters, and pulling schedules back out
- Creating sheets from a list
- Auditing the model: unplaced rooms, duplicates, missing parameters
Rules for using it safely
- Test on a copy of the model before running on a live one.
- Keep scripts small and named for what they do.
- Document inputs and expected output for whoever inherits the script.
- Never automate something you cannot check afterwards.
